THREE GABLES

The remodelling and extension of a Sussex Farmhouse

Having spent several frustrating years failing to find the perfect family house in West Sussex, the clients decided to take a punt on an uninspiring Edwardian house with modern additions.

The question was how to transform this awkward-looking building into the ideal family home.

We initially discussed rebuilding it after total demolition, but this felt wasteful, not least as the existing western elevation had some attractive stone and brickwork typical of the area. This set the tone for the project.

We added a third gable using the same local materials, moved the porch to the centre of the building and swapped the small windows for larger sashes.

For the clients the search is finally over. They have, with our help, created their dream Sussex farmhouse, perfectly adapted to modern family life.
